Malfroy 18

Kia Ora Koutou Katoa

My name is Sylvia Lees and I am the teacher at the Malfroy Satellite Class.   Currently I have 3 amazing, experienced, full-time Support Staff, Raewyn, Stacy and Lester in my team.

We started the year with 4 students  from 2023 – Alizay, Tehihira, Charley and Haytham, however Anaru and Ariana joined Ruma 18 very soon after the school year began making our class complete! Each of the tamariki bring a light of sunshine to the kura.

This year we will be supported in class by Mandana (Speech Language Therapist), Katharina (Occupational Therapist), Ann (Physiotherapist) and Michelle (Orientation and Mobility Specialist).

Shortly, each child will have a new Individual Education Plan (IEP) with supporting goals, however, at the moment we are focussing on establishing routines and realistic, achievable expectations.

We love being able to get outside to play at school and enjoy visiting local and surrounding parks. We also enjoy our daily hikoi in the community or through the Redwoods and Ngongotaha Walking Tracks. We have a goal to visit the Local Library this year and to experience the Sensory Room there.

This term we have been going swimming and horse riding. This has been a huge success and has helped strengthen some core muscles.
